Trivia

It may as well be recounted that the hype responsible for the emergence of this game (one interpretation of the would-be Doom-killer with this name) also produced the "IDSPISPOPD" no clipping (walk through walls) cheat code in Doom 1; the phrase that is the name of this game also appeared as a line of spoken dialogue in Dafydd ab Hugh and Brad Linaweaver's August 1995 Doom novelisation "Knee Deep in the Dead." Finally, topping the grand web of jokes and references this Usenet thread yielded, apparently the band Smashing Pumpkins decided to wade into the fray by including the rocket launcher sound sample from Doom in the song Where Boys Fear to Tread on their October 1995 album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.
