Description official descriptions

Dragon's Eye is a fantasy RPG in which you are cast as a valiant warrior tasked with saving the lands by completing an epic quest. The lands in question are the "Seven Provinces" and the quest itself involves finding and retrieving the "Dragon's Eye" amulet before its evil power corrupts the entire countryside.

The game is played from a strategic map view from which you select which area to adventure into, rest and make your necessary equipment purchases. After that it's off to explore the realm and battle all enemies you might encounter from a side view perspective. Battles are turn-based and you can issue several different orders to be carried out in queue when your turn ends. You can explore the land as you see fit, but beware the time limit imposed by the Dragon's Eye.

Shallow and easy

The Good
You could maximise your score if you felt like sitting around examining numbers for weeks on end before ending the game. The battle sequences were reasonably interesting, although it's never clear what your options do. The statuses for the impossible foes can be funny, as they sound mildly amused that this little beast man's throwing sticks at it. There are many spells that might actually have uses if there were ever a reason to use them. There's a weather system; maybe it does something?

The Bad
The only rational way to play the game is to get a character that can cast a locate eye spell, wait until the spell can be cast successfully, do so, then go to that location and examine in those areas until you get the eye. Then you walk back to where you started and quit the game, winning it.

Dying is only possible if you think you're going to kill a dragon. There's no actual progression. There's just not much of a game here; particularly unacceptable when Wizardry 1 was released a year earlier.

The Bottom Line
Locate the orb, examine spots on the ground until you find the orb, walk back to town, win the game.
