Overview edit · view history

inXile is a North American game developer based in Newport Beach, California. The company was founded in 2002 by Brian Fargo and Matthew Findley, both former Interplay employees. According to Findley, they felt they were both in exile, which gave them the idea for naming the new company. inXile debuted with The Bard's Tale (2004) and has been since specializing in role-playing games.

inXile has become a pioneer in the crowdfunding movement. Wasteland 2, the direct successor to the 1988 classic, raised nearly $3M on Kickstarter in early 2012, becoming the second video game to raise more than $1M (the first being Double Fine's Broken Age). In 2013, inXile's Torment: Tides of Numenera raised over $4M, making it the most funded game on Kickstarter. In 2016, Wasteland 3 raised $3.1M on Fig.

Brian Fargo's Kicking it Forward initiative, through which crowdfunders agree to contribute 5% of net profit to other crowdfunding efforts, has been adopted by more than 600 projects (as of early 2014).

As of 10 November 2018, inXile Entertainment has been part of the Microsoft Corporation via its Xbox Game Studios label.
