I'm a (whoa!) 50-something who has been gaming on the PC since 1984. Before that, it was just games: cardboard counters and plastic tokens on the 70-odd boardgames in my library, followed by seven different eras or technologies in military miniatures (fantasy, ancients, Napoleonics, American Civil War, WWII tanks and ships, modern tanks). Opponents were the one thing I really lacked, and the computer finally supplied a willing (if only occasionally able) opponent on just about any field of endeavor I cared to try.
