Steve Hales is a programmer and game designer.

Hales started programming in high school. His first job in the video game industry was at Starpath, which he joined in 1981. He joined Synapse Software after being introduced to the founder of the company by an old friend from high school, Mike Potter.

In 1995 Hales founded the company Igor's Software Laboratories with Jim Nitchals. They have developed music and audio technologies for computers.
