Boris Natanovich Strugatsky (Борис Натанович Стругацкий, April 14, 1933 – November 19, 2012) was, together with his older brother Arkadi, a renowned Soviet science fiction author. He was born in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), to a Jewish father and Russian mother. Before dedicating himself to writing he worked as an astronomer and a computer engineer.

Among Strugatsky's best-known works are futuristic novels in the Noon Universe cycle, such as Hard to be a God (1964), Prisoners of Power (1969), Beetle in the Anthill (1980), and others, as well as Roadside Picnic (1972), which was adapted into a movie (Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky) and later inspired the video game series S.T.A.L.K.E.R..
