John Steels started in multimedia some time in early 1995 as an illustrator and photo retoucher. In September 1995 he moved to the ill-fated Scavenger working on "Vapour". After its demise he moved to Argonaut where he was artist and subsequently lead artist on Buck Bumble for the N64. He then moved on briefly to EA/Bullfrog where he worked on Dungeon Keeper 2.

His next home was Mucky Foot where he was a senior artist for nearly 5 years working on Urban Chaos, Startopia and Blade II. He worked at Computer Artworks for a year on Alone in the Dark, Sound of Thunder and The Thing 2 before its untimely end.

He is now a senior artist at Sony where he worked on Play 2, Fired Up and Gangs of London. He is currently working on an, as yet, unannounced PS3 title.
