Biography edit · view history

John Bye started out as a level designer in the Doom and Quake mod communities. After completing a number of solo projects, he founded an online team called The Coven, which released two licensed multiplayer add-on packs for Quake and Quake II.

A sidetrack into games journalism saw him editing GameSpy Industries' flagship website PlanetQuake, before moving on to help launch the UK-based EuroGamer. During his three years at the company, EuroGamer became one of Britain's leading videogame content sites, offering Euro-centric news, reviews and features.

After leaving EuroGamer he spent a year developing mods for Neverwinter Nights, including the critically acclaimed Lord Of Blight trilogy and innovative action-strategy mod Good vs Evil.

He returned to full-time game development in 2003 with a job at Lionhead Studios. Starting out as Assistant Cinematographer on Fable, he went on to work as Cinematographer and Scripter on Fable: The Lost Chapters, and Designer on Fable 2, before being asked to help The Movies team finish their Stunts & Effects expansion pack. Unfortunately, while he was working there, The Movies Studio was shut down in preparation for Lionhead's take-over by Microsoft, and most of the staff laid off.

On leaving Lionhead, John spent the Spring of 2006 working as a designer at handheld gaming specialists Razorback Developments, where he worked on the Nintendo DS version of Xiaolin Showdown for Konami.

Since then he has been working as a Designer at Kuju's London studio (now known as Headstrong Games). Credits there include The House of the Dead: Overkill.
