Trivia
OldUnreal
The fan community OldUnreal.com, already a dedicated modding site for the early titles in the franchise, was given permission by Epic Games in 2019 to develop and distribute patches for the game, including bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, updates/replacements to middleware and new features. This agreement was not changed by the game's delisting from online stores (see below).
In late 2024, OldUnreal was given explicit permission to release installers for Unreal: Gold and Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition that would pull an approved ISO image of the games from Archive.org, download it on the user's computer and apply the latest version of the aforementioned patch, free of charge. The official information page on Epic Games' website about the Unreal franchise would also link to these installers.
Online servers and delisting
The game's original online master servers were shut down on 31 May 2014 alongside other GameSpy servers. Epic Games would host their own master server until 24 January 2023.
Like other games in the series, Unreal Tournament: Game of the Year Edition was delisted from Steam on 14 December 2022 and GOG.com on 23 December 2022.
