Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is an expanded re-release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity. The new content has about the scope of a regular add-on, i.e. no fundamental changes to the game mechanics.
The most important addition is the rebellion. This causes the need for each player to decide the side - loyalist or rebel. The choice adds an additional layer to the game with individual new technologies and ships, including the new titan warships. Those can't be just built, however, because the player can only build one, needs to research it first and has to sink a lot of resources into it. In turn, it is powerful. Other smaller changes include new music, new tutorials and new victory conditions.
