Psychic Detective
Description official descriptions
Eric Fox is a psychic who lives in San Francisco and earns his living performing magic shows in seedy nightclubs. This changes when Eric meets Laina, a mysterious woman who trains him to venture inside other people's minds. Laina then hires Eric as a private detective to travel into the minds of the people who attend a wake held in honor of her father, which has died under unclear circumstances.
Psychic Detective is an interactive movie with adventure elements. The player can choose people whose minds Eric is able to read, and also interact with objects for further insight into the storyline. Many of these decisions and interaction choices branch the storyline, leading it to different endings; one of these endings is reached if the player chooses not to interact at all and lets the movie unfold by itself.

A stunning achievement - quite possibly one of the worst games ever made...
The Good
Psychic detective is not a game that fails through lack of effort or a mediocre vision. It is a remarkably diligent application of all that is horrible and unplayable in the endless realm of computer game possibilities. All the uninvolved ugliness of mid nineties Full Motion Video: all the plot depth of a Friends episode: all the genteel class of Strip Poker III await you in this three cd gargoyle of a game.
Become the psychic detective! See into worlds you didn't know existed! Solve crimes of dark imagination! Witness acting that would embarass a porn star! Throw up as you pass the fifteen minute mark...
The Bad
Aside from the fact that it's an utterly useless stillbirth that surely (hopefully) ended the careers of anyone ever associated with it, there's nothing at all wrong with Psychic Detective. It recalls nothing so much as an enormous, high-budget future transplant of one of those crappy Commodore 64 games of yesteryear, programmed by a fourteen year old nebbish in his basement and disappearing without a trace four days after release... only with a malevolent force driving it over the line of banality and into twisted genius.
The Bottom Line
Psychic Detective is, quite simply, the Plan Nine From Outer Space of mid nineties cdrom games. Like an original Ed Wood movie poster, or a guilty copy of Kevin Costner's The Postman lurking on your video shelf, it will add undeniably garish colour to any serious collection of the esoteric and the awful.

Trivia
Playstation version
There are a number of suggestive scenes (including a softcore sex scene) that are absent from the Playstation release. The PC and 3DO versions have these scenes intact, however.
