Description official description

The sequel to the popular LEGO Star Wars arrives, this time for the Nintendo DS. The DS version of the game is in 3D, but the scenarios and levels are unique, thus creating a different experience for those who have already played the console versions of the game.

Players navigate their way through familiar scenes of movies from the original Star Wars trilogy: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. The difference here being that all the characters and sets are made entirely from LEGO, and the cutscenes (acted out by characters in amusing pantomime) and gameplay reflects this. Jedis can use The Force to shift blocks and make plants grow, normal characters can build certain blocks to make items, and droid characters can activate special locks.

Building, destroying enemies and triggering switches usually yields "studs", the game's currency. Studs can be used to unlock more characters via the Mos Eisley Cantina (the game's hub world), as well as cheats, and extras like Disco Mode, Letterbox Mode, and other amusing things. Players can also create their own custom characters by unlocking more LEGO parts and selecting the head, torso and legs of their choice.

The DS version of LEGO Star Wars II also allows two players to play through the game cooperatively through Wireless mode. Or, if helping isn't your thing, you can play a four player Wireless capture the flag game in Jabba the Hutt's Palace, where the "flag" is Han Solo encased in carbonite.

Quite simply a bug ridden, unfinished, rushed mess...an insult to gamers

The Good
I didn't like much about this game besides the music and sound effects, that's about the most positive thing to say!

The Bad
There are many, many reasons I detest this game. Its such a shame that a licence that's been so superb on all the other systems, whether it be GBA, PS2 or XBOX should be abysmal on the Nintendo DS. There's no excuse for it, the game has clearly been rush-released to tie in with the other platforms and some DVDs and its simply full of graphical bugs and hasn't been properly play tested/finished. You can't even finish some levels at times because characters/objects simply vanish and your left in some sort of play testing mode where all you can do is wander aimlessly

The Bottom Line
A complete mess, a wasted opportunity and an insult to gamers...the makers of this game must have known it was bug infested/far from finished and they still released it, shame on all concerned!

Trivia

Release

According to the developers, the first production run of the DS game was pushed out a little too early, partly to coincide with the release of the Star Wars DVDs Episode IV, V, VI. This lead to game-stopping design flaws, making it hard to impossible to complete certain levels. The second run of the game had been smoothed out (e.g. The Endor Battle level) and there are also differences between the US and European version, but the consumer is not actively made aware of this nor encouraged to swap a first-run version.
