Description official descriptions

You play Kage, a skillful ninja in search of rescuing Princess Kiri from the hands of the warlord Yoshi. Armed only with a sword and 'star knives', you must fight your way through countless henchmen and the occasional boss to complete your task. Levels include the forest, moat, inside and outside of the castle. These levels repeat as the seasons change. The gameplay is side scrolling. Kage's moves include the ability jump extremely high in the air, grab and climb trees, block and attack with his sword, and throw shuriken. The game can be challenging at times though because the player dies in one hit. 2-players are supported, but must take turns.

Ninja action throughout the 4 seasons

The Good
OK, anyone who played this as a kid will have a big nostalgia factor upon picking it up again.

I loved being a ninja and I liked that you side-scrolled to the left, instead of to the right like most games do.

The action is simple at first, but as the levels progress - so does the difficulty. If memory serves, I actually never completed the game.

The level where you ascend (I think it's the third one) is a joy.

I can still hear the music playing in my head.

The Bad
It's too short. The same levels repeat as the seasons change.

The same is true for gameplay - there are some level up items you can pick up, but not enough variation for this to be an undisputed classic - just a classic in the minds of those who played it while still in grade school.

The Bottom Line
A not-so-great ninja game when compared to games these days, especially where graphics and gameplay are concerned, but for those who played it as kids - it's NES gold. It's nothing ground breaking, but there are worse ways to kill a couple of hours.
