Switchblade
Description official descriptions
The Fireblade, sacred symbol of the ancient Switchblade clan, has been smashed into 16 pieces by the evil Havoc - but they say that a Hiro can save it, and as Hiro, you must retrieve the 16 pieces and restore your people's pride.
The gameplay is platform and ladders based, set both inside and outside. The layout of the territories becomes visible as you progress, and they can contain bonus weapons and secret rooms. Unlike the sequel you start without weaponry, and this is gained directly, rather than you collecting coins and trading them at shop sections. Holding down fire progressively builds up your fighting power.

Amstrad CPC version
Amstrad version of the game was very exceptional due to fact that it used (when found) special hardware introduced in the CPC 464 Plus, CPC 6128 Plus and GX4000 models. Scrolling and sprites were handled by this hardware, freeing up processor power and the graphics could use an increased palette of 4096 colours.
Development
"Switchblade" was the first title written by Simon Phipps on Atari ST. It took eighteen months to be completed. Amiga version of the game was a direct conversion. In 1990 an enhanced version for Amstrad was released foliowed by a regular port to Amstrad, C64 and ZX Spectrum in 1991.
