Pinball FX2: Bethesda Pinball
Description
Bethesda Pinball is an DLC / in-app purchase for Pinball FX2 (Windows / Windows Apps / Xbox 360 / Xbox One), Zen Pinball (Android / iOS / tvOS) or Zen Pinball 2 (Mac / PS3 / PS4 / PS Vita).
It consists of three pinball tables, not available separate, based on Bethesda properties: DOOM, Fallout and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
DOOM is the most traditional one about going to hell and back and slaughtering as many demons as possible. At the start of the game two difficulty levels are presented (Hurt Me Plenty and Nightmare) with different support features enabled or deactivated as a result. Through a central Titan skull different missions are activated. They are not timed, but fail when the character runs out of health. There is a regular set of flippers at the bottom with two outlanes on each side. An additional flipper is in the upper right part of the table. The table can go dark as a generator recharges. Creatures spawn in the centre of the table and can be taken out by targetting them. There is also often an imp on the right, throwing fireballs, and a cyberdemon as a constant presence in the top right part. There is a separate section in the top left corner controlling three twirling rocks to hit drop targets. All the game's weapons can be collected, along with health, armor and ammo. There are Rune Trials and two types of multiball.
Fallout uses the familiar wasteland setting and introduces many features that can pause the action, along with role-playing elements. At the start a random character can be chosen or a specific one by determining the gender and spending skill points on seven S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes. The player also selects a companion for a bonus perk. Many game features are accessed through an in-game shops where bottle caps, a currency collected through various actions and shots, can be spent on different types of items and enhancements. Completing quests is rewarded with experience and skill points after leveling up. There is a persistent health bar in the bottom left area that needs to be maintained. When it is not replenished a small amount of bottle caps is lost. There are fights and resistances, and armor needs to be repaired. The V.A.T.S. system is present allowing for precision shots on enemies. A meter needs to be filled through the top rollovers or through enemy hits. There are four factions (The Brotherhood of Steel, The Institute, The Minutemen and The Railroad) and they offer five quests each. There are many fights and side quests.
Skyrim uses role-playing mechanics similar to the Fallout table, but takes the concept further. It has persistent character development and leveling maintained across different matches. At the start a class is chosen along with an effect such as a resistance. While playing a full inventory can be accessed by holding both flippers. It has sections for weapons, potions, skills, apparel, magic and miscellaneous items that can be used or equipped. Items are won through quests of by locating loot and have a value and weight. Redundant items can be dropped, so some inventory management is needed. A giant dragon can swoop over the table, setting some lanes on fire. If the ball passes through them the character's HP is reduced. Using a top-down view caves can be explored with a maze somewhat similar to a wood labyrinth board game. After leveling up health, magicka or stamina can be improved. These three stats each have their own bars in the bottom left area. Players get to craft weapons, explore towns, complete quests, buy and sell items, mine minerals, and find trainers. The ultimate goal is to defeat Alduin the World-Eater.
