The BFG Game

The BFG Game is a match-three puzzle game based on the 2016 movie The BFG, which is in turn based on the 1982 book by Roald Dahl. The game uses classic matching gameplay similar to the elements of the Bejeweled series. The player progresses through levels in a linear way by completing the goals of single-screen boards. Instead of jewels a board consists of jars with the bottled dreams the Big Friendly Giant (BFG) uses to bring dreams and nightmare to children while they are sleeping. The game contains the movie depictions of the BFG and the character Sophie, but does not have any further story elements.

Jars can be matched horizontally or vertically in a set of three identical, consecutive items to score and make them disappear as new ones then fill up the empty spots. Large combinations such as four jars create a booster, and the shape of an L or a T creates a bomb booster. Boosters can again be matched with jars of the same colour or with each other to create large chain reactions. A cluster booster can be matched with any jar to remove all connected jars of the same colour. Matching five jars in a straight line creates a booster with a similar effect, but affecting all jars of a single colour across the entire board.

Up to three stars can be earned per level based on the total score. A total number of stars is required to keep progressing. Typical level goals include reaching a high score with a limited amount of moves, clearing specific types of jars, or clearing wooden tiles by matching jars on top of them. The game is free-to-play with in-app purchases for coins used to purchase boosters, additional moves or to refill lives of the energy/stamina system. Examples of boosters are the BFG's net to remove a single jar from the board, the BFG's bag to shuffle the board, the snozzcumber to clear seven squares and so on.
