Choice of Alexandria

This historical storygame puts the player in the sandals of a new Cyrenic tutor to Greek princeling Ptolemy IV, heir to the pharaonic throne of Alexandria in Ancient Egypt. With various approaches at their disposal including Rhetoric, Medicine, and maths and invention (Tekne), the player's steering can turn an apt pupil into a just ruler -- or an insufferable tyrant. There are others contending for influence over the future ruler, and still further outside forces aim to make Ptolemy III the last occupying monarch of his line, restoring Egypt to Egyptian governance, so players must make their choices carefully. And of course, the tutor may hold some positions of their own they wish to use their influence to advance...

All of this intrigue and duty plays against a mosaic of life in Antiquity, from the Olympic games to the siege of Syracuse, populated with a cast of real-life figures including Archimedes and Euclid and historical locations such as the Colossus of Rhodes, the Pharos of Alexandria, and the Great Library. In spare moments, players may find themselves changing the course of history by coming up with inventions years or centuries before their time, and a variety of endings explore the profound marks inadvertently made on civilization by their choices.
