The equivalent of a colouring book
The Good
I liked this game because I beat it. Other than that there's not a lot going for it.
The Bad
The trucks sound like a washing machine on a spin cycle, a moped makes a better sound. The music is the same short looped track throughout the game
The graphics are smooth but that's 'coz they don't try to do much, there's a fog in the mid distance that really doesn't need to be there in a game from 2006. I've had better graphics on DOS games that were released ten years earlier (or is that just my memory making old stuff seem better than it really was?). Also there is only one viewpoint.
Gameplay is as simple as pressing the A key to accelerate and the left/right arrows to steer. There are other keys but the only other one that the player will need is SPACE to reposition their truck on the track if they get stuck behind a rock, yup - there's no reverse it's that simple.
The game plays in full screen all the time, there's no option to play in a window.
Now, why do I dislike a game that I played and beat? Well, at the time of writing I am sixty-two and all my gaming life I have been rubbish at games like this. However, with this game I played the tournament mode and in under an hour I had completed the game winning all tournament cups, and unlocking all the vehicles and course stages.
I've faced tougher challenges playing old Speccy games than I've faced here.
The Bottom Line
When I was a lad and the family got together there was usually a colouring book or a puzzle book to keep the kids entertained while the grown-ups got on with grown up stuff. This is that kind of game, something that well meaning grandparents will get in because it will keep little Johnny, or Jenny, amused while they get on with family business.
The trouble is that today's kids don't put up with second rate games because they have seen better and played better - and probably do so on their phones.
This game doesn't measure up now and most likely didn't measure up when it was released
