Description

Zombiewood is a twin stick shooter played from an elevated, almost top-down perspective. Most likely due to a new drug called Aggrosil, Los Angeles is invaded by zombies. While the police debates how to deal with this menace, a resourceful director sees this as the perfect opportunity to film zombie-related movies without having to construct sets or hire extras. The protagonist controlled by the player is a stuntman who answers an ad to play in these movies. For the occasion, Hollywood is also changed to Zombiewood, hence the title.

The main single-player mode consists of several movies that are unlocked gradually. Each movie consists of several scenes based around different objectives. By completing these objectives, movie reels are earned. Reels are used to unlock a next scene and eventually a new movie. Optionally scenes can also be unlocked right away through cash, the premium currency. Movies have titles that fit the theme, such as Good Cop, Dead Cop or Highway to Hades. There are many different game modes, such as killing an amount of zombies, protecting cupcakes so the movie crew has food available, putting out fires, escorting characters, defending and repairing barriers against waves of zombies for a certain amount of time and so on. After a movie is finished royalties are earned gradually and these can be cashed every now and then.

The protagonist's movement is controlled through a virtual stick on the left side of the screen. He can move in any direction and a virtual stick on the right side of the screen is used to fire, with a direction independent from movement. The character only has a limited amount of health and needs to shoot zombies that come from all directions. Most of the environments offer a certain amount of freedom to explore freely. Killed zombies often leave behind coins, the basic currency. Next to reels, additional coins and stars are completed after completing a level. Stars are experience and fill a meter to level up a player profile. There are several types of guns available, bought with the currencies. Weapons have an unlimited amount of ammo, but require reloads. Most weapons can be upgraded multiple times and certain weapons only become available after reaching a certain player level. Many levels have power-ups that provide temporary bonuses. These can also be bought directly in-game using the currencies. Other items in the in-game shop are clothing items that can provide perks for defense or speed, armor, boosters for instance to earn more coins or stars for a short time, and power-ups such as health packs, coin magnets or static turrets. Certain items are also available in bundles.

Other game elements are rewards for logging daily, a slot machine to win prizes, connecting through a social network to challenge friends, compare scores, send bets and provide gifts, and a full cooperative online multiplayer game mode. The latter can be played with up to three players. Weapons heat up in these mode, limiting their use. There is also the Blockbuster Premier mode as a survival mode with endless amounts of waves.
