Madden NFL Mobile

Madden NFL Mobile is the 2014-2016 edition of the Madden American football franchise for mobile devices and the successor to 2013's Madden NFL 25. It combines managing a team and playing games as live events, seasons, head-to-head matches and in leagues. By doing well additional players can be earned along with collectibles, coins as a currency and experience to level up. It is then possible to build a team with current and past players and compete in the different game modes.

Single challenges are grouped together as time limited live events. They are a quick way to earn coins, experience points and fans by completing objectives. The gameplay varies for each game mode, but usually it consists of short offense and defense phases. In offensive, after the ball snap, it is possible to run and pass to offensive team mates, activate skill moves and perform evasive maneuvers based on zones. There is a kicking mechanic for field goals by fast swipes towards the top of the screen to determine the speed and direction. There is also a catching mechanic for incoming passes based on timing a catch meter to stop in a green section instead of a red one. In regular games the game often suggests playcalls that can be tapped to quickly activate them. Head-to-head games against other players are asynchronous, taking turns for offensive drives.

The main currencies coins (basic) and cash (premium) are used to buy player packs. There is also an auction house where players can offer cards or bid on them. The game encourages building complete sets to unlock additional players, collectibles and plays. Players can also be upgraded. The premium cash is used mainly in the later stages of the game, to get the best players or to assemble sets quickly. There is an stamina system that has a waiting time when it is empty before a new game can be started. Optionally this can be skipped by spending a currency.

After various smaller updates the game's servers were shut down on 16th August 2015 and the game was relaunched right away with an extensive update and a new look, tutorials and various enhancements to the gameplay. The game was reset for everybody and the old team was placed in a trophy room, only available for legacy team live events. The Madden cash was kept, but all coins, items, the head-to-head rank, completed seasons, level and achievements were reset to even the playing field for the new start. Teams were however rewarded in June 2015 with a season score based on the progress. This provided access to reward packs to give players a head start in the new season.
