Description

Need for Speed: No Limits is a free-to-play racing game for mobile devices in the Need for Speed series and it is made by the developer of the Real Racing games. It returns to the setting of entries like Need for Speed: Underground with races set in dense cities with high-speed sports cars. The game takes place in the fictional city of Blackridge and there is a story that involves characters like Marcus King, Kim, the Royals gang and the mechanic Dwayne. There are many types of races such as point-to-point against a single car or multiple opponents, illegal challenges, team battles against rival crew members, races against time and some that involve the police chasing the player's car and setting up roadblocks. There are tournaments, and certain races and events are time limited or only available to specific brands of cars.

The game has circa 30 licensed cars from different manufacturers. By earning parts and combining them, six types of car elements (engine, turbo, acceleration, wheels, nitro etc.) can be upgraded multiple times, racing the cars global PR score and the main statistics top speed, acceleration and nitro. A minimum score is often required to enter races and the cars' overall performance is rated out of five stars. Cars have multiple designs that can be collected. The main campaign is split up in five classes (Street, Muscle, Classic, Sport and Super) with a different setting, different cars and a new rival.

Cars are always at maximum acceleration, there are no brakes and the player only needs to steer using on-screen buttons or by tilting the device. Through maneuvers such as drafting, narrow escape and drifting a nitro is meter is filled up near the top of the screen. When full, an upwards swipe activates it. Drifting is done by swiping down when entering a corner followed by corrections through steering. In certain races there is a countdown where the acceleration can be timed on a meter to get a perfect start. In many races jumps and other actions need to be performed to fill the nitro meter quickly and overtake opponents.

Next to cash as a basic currency the game has a premium gold currency to access certain cars and parts. There is also a stamina/energy system based on gas. Other currencies are style points for unlocking visual elements, medals for completing events (with rewards), and cards that can be exchanged for parts or liveries. Each race consumes an amount and it takes some time before the meter is full again, unless a refill is bought with real money. The game also has a crate system in the docks location where new crates (basic or gold one) arrive regularly. They contain multiple parts at once and some of these can also be bought with the premium currency. The player's character earns experience and can level up. At higher levels additional game elements can be unlocked, such as the car series, a modshop, a black market and tournaments.
