Driver: Speedboat Paradise
Description official description
Driver: Speedboat Paradise is a speedboat racing game that uses the name of the Driver racing series, but has no ties to the story. The game offers multiple locations such as Bahamas, Bering, Cancun, Egypt, Grand Canyon, Miami, Palm Beach and Venice with multiple racing events for each one. Game modes for events include classic races against opponents with multiple laps, time trials, endurance races, elimination, drag races and duels.
The boat accelerates automatically and can be steered using taps, by tilting the device or through a wireless controller. It needs to be guided through corners and can draft behind other boats to gain speed. Ramps are used to launch the boat in the air to perform stunts through swipes. Competitors and police boats can be defeated by ramming them, performing a takedown. During races machine parts and boost icons can be picked up. When the boost meter is full it can be activated to gain extra speed and there is a brake for sharp turns. To unlock new events and locations up to five stars need to be earned per race, tied to objectives such as the finishing position, performing takedowns, a time limit, collecting nitros and machine parts, performing jumps and avoiding crashes.
Money earned during races can be used to buy new boats (over 20 available) or upgrade the statistics of an existing one in four areas: acceleration, handling, nitro and speed. Boats can be customized through colours and decals. By earning experience the main character levels up and gains access to new boats and decals. Money can also be invested in a lifestyle through houses with furniture, clothes and other items. The lifestyle level and racing results attract fans. In a conversation an answer needs to be chosen and with a positive outcome the fan is added to a fan page.
The game is free-to-play with two types of currency: cash (basic) and gold bars (premium). Cash is earned regularly during races, but gold bars are required as in-app purchases to buy certain ship parts, speedboats, fuel tanks, premium houses, clothing items and certain pieces of furniture. The game uses an energy system based on fuel tanks that have a waiting time to refill, but can be sped up through in-app purchases. Special upgrades can also be bought for real money, providing nitro refills, double or additional cash, shorter fuel waiting times, extra energy, etc. For a large amount the energy system can also be removed altogether. Extra cash and items can be earned by participating in timed challenges. There is also a weekly tournament to compete against friends and other players worldwide for the best times.
