Influent
Description official description
Influent is a language learning game, focused on forming or expanding a beginner's vocabulary. In it, an inventor called Andrew Cross created the SanjigenJiten, a device capable of telling any object's name in a language of choice by simply pointing at it. Andrew was on his way to patent the contraption, but unfortunately it was stolen. Now he needs to prove that the idea was his by memorizing over 300 words in a foreign language using an improved device.
When purchasing the game, the buyer receives the base content plus a language pack chosen out of the following:
- Brazilian Portuguese (added on the 20th of February, 2015)
- Bulgarian
- Danish (added on the 16th of February, 2016)
- English
- European Portuguese (added on the 12th of December, 2014)
- Finnish (added on the 25th of March, 2015)
- French
- German
- Italian (added on the 30th of September, 2014)
- Japanese
- Korean
- Latin
- Mandarin Chinese
- Norwegian (added on the 28th of April, 2015)
- Russian (added on the 24th of July, 2014)
- Spanish
- Swedish
After the initial purchase all other language packs can be bought separately as downloadable content.
In the game, the player controls Andrew and must explore his apartment in order to find new words. Clicking on any object reveals its name, spelling and voiced pronunciation. Certain objects have more than one name, and the player has the option of choosing which one to remember. After adding at least ten objects to the vocabulary, the player can test his or her memory by attempting a Time Attack: correctly identifying ten words displayed on the screen among the objects in the apartment. It's possible to change how the words are shown during the Time Attack, for example accompanied by voice, hints or translations. Eventually, a new mode will be unlocked, called Fly By. It functions similarly to Time Attack, except the player controls a toy spaceship and shoots the objects that need to be located. To master a word, the player needs to correctly locate it three times in a row (in any of the two modes). The ultimate objective is to discover and master all the words in a language pack, but there are also smaller achievements in the To Do List.
Some objects may have verbs and adjectives attached to them. They must be unlocked first using a number of stars, which the player earns by mastering words. Time Attack and Fly By can be set up to use words from a single page in the vocabulary, but the difficulty increases when using a random list, either of nouns, verbs, adjectives, or of all discovered words.
