Description

Naval Battle: Mission Commander is a Battleship variant with isometric graphics. It consists of four different game modes: a campaign and single games with three different rule sets: the original Battleship rules, salvo rules and advanced rules. The original is played on a 10x10 grid where the player gets one shot per turn plus an additional shot after every hit while in the salvo rules mode the player each turn gets a shot at the enemy for every ship that is still afloat but no additional shots after a hit. With advanced rules each boat has a special attack. The player has a bar that charges every turn until it is full and can then choose one special attack to launch. These include reconnaissance planes that identifies enemy positions, barrage that attacks multiple tiles in a star-shaped pattern, napalm that spreads each turn to adjacent boat tiles and torpedoes that moves through a full row of the grid until it hits something. The special attacks that are available depends on which ships the player has in his fleet.

The campaign mode uses the advanced rules and consists of eighteen missions that has to be played in order. Campaign mission differ in that they have secondary objectives, different settings and grids of varying sizes. They also have various environmental features, for example icebergs, whose destruction is an example of a secondary objective. There are also various special tiles which give the player a bonus when hit, for example additional shots in a turn. As missions are completed the player gets promoted with new ranks and there are also awards that can be earned.

The game also has a multiplayer mode that allows two players to compete head to head either through Bluetooth or by sharing the same handset.
