Description official descriptions

A clandestine group has been organizing illegal street races in the USA for more than 50 years. What started as a fun event has grown into an annual contest for cash and glory. Only six are given a chance to prove their worth.

USA Racer contains 11 tracks in different locations across the USA. Players can race in cities such as Los Angeles, New York or Washington DC or can take part in a race through the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. Next to Time Trial and Single Race, the Tournament is the main event. It has been split up in three sections: Park Trial, City Trial and US Race. After completing a section, the next one is opened up.

The tracks contain obstacles and jumps. Enemies will try to push other cars off the road, and the police also make an appearance. Scattered around the tracks are power-ups that repair the car, provide boost or cash. The money can be used to upgrade the car, repair it or buy boost prior to the race. After completing an entire tournament with a certain car, an alternate vehicle becomes available for that character.

In the Windows version two-player duels are available over LAN or TCP/IP. Players can either go head-to-head or play a game of Cop vs. Racer.

Not the best racing game, but pretty fun

The Good
The game features a radio, making the game more realistic.

The cars look nice.

Cops add to the challenge.

The graphics are good, and so are the sounds

The Bad
Well, they could have put a dashboard like Maxis did in Streets of Sim City to make it more realistic.

The controls are sensitive! A little tap on the left or right key and the car makes a big turn.

On my Windows 98, the game runs horribly! On the back of the CD case, it said it could run on Windows 98, 2000, and even 95! The game slows down on me on numerous occasions. I can't imagine how it would run on 95.

The other racers run on a fixed course which means: NO AI! NONE AT ALL!

The Bottom Line
It is a fun game, I mean, you race through the U.S, but it isn't the best out there.

Drive trough the USA like a freak with no head

The Good
What I like about the game is that you can race in the USA, there aren't games where you can race trough the USA. Davilex has made often much other race games in Holland, Germany, France and England, but the AI of all those game were the same, always, the fastest car always won and the slowest car lose. But in USA racer it is different. The speed of the game is much faster then the European predecessors were not.

The Bad
What I don't like about the game is the objects that are placed on the road for upgrades for the car like "repair" and "turbo". I think they never had to make that, that makes the game silly and a little bit to easy. Some graphics could be made better.

The Bottom Line
A reasonable game. Games like NFS 3 are by my opinion much better and there is even more AI, what the game makes more harder to play. But after all, it isn't so bad what they say about the game.
