Frontline Commando: D-Day
Description
Frontline Commando: D-Day is the second game in the Frontline Commando series and the first to take place during World War II. As in the first game, the gameplay revolves around cover based shooting from a third-person perspective. Movement is limited to jumping between a few predefined covers and the player has access to two weapons as well as a limited supply of grenades and artillery strikes for taking out larger groups of enemies and bazookas for taking out tanks. In certain locations there are stationary guns that can be used. After a group of enemies have been taken out the player automatically runs to the next scene where the action continues. In certain places there are barriers that have to be jumped and mines that have to be dodged.
The game features a campaign as well as a base defense mode. The campaign consists of five mission packs (Utah, Omaha, Gold, Jino and Sword) each consisting of a linear sequence of missions plus some extra side missions. In addition to the traditional cover shooting levels there are levels where the player has to take out enemy airplanes with an ack-ack gun. The base defense mode consists of 40 waves that the player has to survive. By doing so the player can earn special weapons and armor. These missions are scored and a leaderboard shows how the player compares to others.
The game is free-to-play and has a store where the player can buy weapons and items. There are three currencies: credits, war cash and axis plans. War cash is earned by playing the missions while credits are bought with real money. Axis plans are earned by shooting spies that appear in special spy hunt missions. Weapons are tied to tiers and the player needs to level up to get access to new ones. Leveling up happens once the player has gained enough experience from playing missions.
