Tron: Legacy
Description
TRON: Legacy is a mobile game released as a tie in with the movie of the same name. Unlike Disney's free top-down arcade-like game TRON, this game features 3D rendered graphics. The game has two game modes Light Cycle racing and shooting game with a Recognizer.
The Light Cycles mode is either a race between other Light Cycles, or a time trial. In both cases, the player has to control the bike through a racing track usually of three laps. The Light Cycles leave behind a crashable Light Ribbon, however it has a very limited length. Powerups are found through the track and includes turbo, cloaking, shield breaking and more. The Light Cycle can crash in the wall boundaries of the track, or in other players' Light Ribbons. When this happens the player derezzes, but re-spawns immediately just losing momentum and a brief amount of time. In time trial, three other times are displayed and the goal is to beat these scores. In the race mode, the goal is to finish the game before the opponents.
The Recognizer mode is a point match where the player is on board a Recognizer. The player doesn't control the movement of the vessel, but only the aiming of the plasma weapon. The goal is to destroy as many tanks, turrets and light cycles as possible. Except for the light cycles, the enemies will fire back at the player. To survive the player needs to destroy the enemies before they hit the Recognizer Module, or find health power-ups among the way. To prevent players from just shooting rapidly and randomly the gun will overheat if used to often, making it unusable for a short time. Hitting several enemies in a row without missing also grants bonus multiplier points. The goal is to finish a level with a better score than three pre-displayed scores.
In all modes a third place or better is required to proceed to the next level. The player collects tournament points for completing a level. 1st place gives three points, 2nd grants two, and 3rd place equals 1 point. A certain number of points is needed to advance to the next "act" which means new pool of levels. The points add up, meaning for example two 2nd places on the same level grants four points. Losing a racing mode with just one other Light Cycle will still grant two points and unlock the next level.
The game is controlled by tilting, leaning and shaking the device. This is used for steering and jumping in Light Cycle mode, and aiming the weapon on Recognizer mode. Tapping and holding the touch screen is needed to accelerate and brake in Light Cycle mode, and shooting in Recognizer mode.
The original release of the game had multiplayer support for Light Cycles, but the servers were shut down and the feature were removed from the game late in 2011.
