Cygnus
- Cygnus (1984 on Jupiter Ace)
Description
Cygnus is a game where the player needs to navigate mazes, with a look inspired by Gravitar and Thrust. Players guide a space ship drawn as a triangle through minimalistic levels that usually only consist of lines to mark the borders. The ship cannot touch any of the lines or it explodes. The ship can be rotated in any direction and as most levels have no gravity, thrust is used to gain speed or slow down (facing the opposing direction). When the ship is blown up, it immediately respawns.
The game also introduces fuel. Each thrust depletes the amount of fuel and it needs to be refilled by flying close to tanks. When out of fuel the ship eventually crashes into a border. When it respawns it starts off with a new amount. The game is divided into different planets, each with a distinct look. Hazards include obstacles and moving objects. The ship cannot shoot. Later environments also have teleporters and minor puzzles where the ship needs to fly through a certain section to remove a barrier.
