The Special Edition of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner is the localized European and Oceanian release of the game. In addition to the base game as it was released in the United States and Japan, it contains a number of improvements and additions:
- New gameplay sequences and polygon demos
- A new opening demo
- More secret areas
- New 3D models
- Improved graphics
There is no regular European version of the game.
