REDDER
Description
REDDER is a platform game with a focus on exploration, reminiscent in design of the games of Nicklas Nygren. Players command an astronaut whose ship crashes on a planet. To have it repaired 27 diamonds need to be collected that are scattered around the game world. The non-scrolling environment is built up out of different rooms that form a square map. Some rooms present enemies that need to be avoided, or hazards such as electrical currents. There is no way to take out enemies.
The most important puzzle technique is based on red and green switches. These activate or deactivate boxes of a corresponding colour in the environment. The boxes are used as platforms to reach higher areas, or block enemies or hazards. Diamonds can almost never be collected right away without solving a puzzle element. Controls are basic as only the arrow keys are used to move around and jump. At regular intervals checkpoints can be activated where the astronaut returns when he dies. Players can access the map at any time to get an overview and warp to the latest checkpoint or return to the ship.
