GLEN COVE N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--February 22, 1996--Opening the door on a new genre of interactive entertainment, Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. is launching DTM this spring for next generation game systems and personal computers. A macabre journey into the unknown, D is the story of Laura Harris, a young woman plunged into a terrifying world created by her crazed father's rampage in a Los Angeles hospital. Already Acclaim's first title to reach number one in Japan, D garnered Japan's prestigious "Multimedia Grand Prix Minister of International Trade and Industry Award" for its elaborate computer graphics, innovative game play and dramatic soundtrack.
As Laura, players enter into the heavily atmospheric world of D, where through a series of adventures and complex problem solving problem solving, they must discover the truth behind Dr. Richter Harris' mysterious murderous rampage. Featuring Silicon Graphics-rendered, full-motion images, D leads players through a compelling horror story filled with seemingly indecipherable clues and grim surprises, offering gamers a frightening and fascinating interactive experience. Enhancing the experience is an originally scored soundtrack by D creator and programmer, Kenji Eno, who also commissioned and conducted the Moscow Symphony Orchestra to play the piece.
"With stunningly cinematic photo-realistic graphics, unique first-and third-person perspectives, and an eerily compelling soundtrack, D truly puts a `new face' on the interactive horror genre and offers gamers a frighteningly suspenseful journey into the world of the macabre," says Sam Goldberg, vice president of Marketing. "The incredible retail and artistic success of D for Acclaim Japan is a benchmark which sets the stage for the title to become a worldwide phenomenon."
Acclaim's D is backed by an integrated, multimillion dollar marketing campaign that includes an interactive D web site (http://www.acclaimnation.com); on-line seeding in interactive entertainment news groups; broad-based print advertising and a multitiered sweepstakes in which consumers who identify all three D clues located on Acclaim's P.O.P. materials, print ads or within the D web site, are eligible to win a stay in an ancient castle in Ireland. Increasing interest even further are free D demo disks that are available at retail as well as through an extensive direct mail campaign.
D will be available March 5 for PC CD-ROM, Sony PlayStation(TM), Sega Saturn and the Microsoft(R) Windows 95(R) operating system.
