Twin Sector
Description official descriptions
The surface of the earth has become inhabitable and what's left of humanity has been put into cryo-sleep in big sectors deep down under the surface. One day an AI named O.S.C.A.R. wakes up one of the many thousands of residents in one of the sectors. Ashley Simms, a maintenance-engineer, doesn't remember much of her past but when O.S.C.A.R. tells her that the generators are failing and everyone will die in ten hours she doesn't think and acts instead, following O.S.C.A.R.s orders. But is O.S.C.A.R. really her ally in this life-and-death situation? And how much time has gone by while she was sleeping? And what does the mysterious title Twin Sector really mean?
Twin Sector is somewhat similar to Portal. The player takes on the role of Ashley in a first-person-perspective who has access to unusual gravity gloves. Her left glove allows her to pull things to her and the right to push everything away. By holding either the left or right mouse-button, the player charges up the glove and thereby increases the strength of the pull or push when let go. Besides throwing around crates, barrels and additional crates, the gloves also allow the player to get to higher places or jump over gaps by pulling himself to the wall on the other side and such. Later in the game, Ashley also earns the ability to power-up her gloves with an electric charge which comes in handy in fighting the only moving enemy in the game: the Tracers.
The tracers are flying ball that hurt Ashley by touching her. Ashley on the other hand has to either use her electric charge to destroy the Tracers or throw stuff at them. While the electric charge will immediately destroy the Tracer in a large explosion, hitting it hard with a barrel will only stun the Tracer. Another hit with a crate or barrel is then needed to destroy it in it's inactive state. Depending on what weapon he uses, the player needs to destroy the Tracer up to three times before it's really gone. Although in some cases completely destroying a Tracer will just attract another leaving only retreat to overcome the obstacle. But Tracers aren't the biggest enemy of Ashley - the Sector itself is. The levels are riddled with deadly laser-traps, automatic turrets, burning fires, closed doors and many other obstacles. With everything killing Ashley instantly or at least keeping her from moving on, the player needs to find his way through the levels overcoming all those environment puzzles only using his gloves and his wits to ultimately confront the real enemy, save all those lives and remember that there is something else to all this...
