Great RPG Classic

The Good
What isn't there to like? The game (part 1) lets you obtain a party of up to 8 characters (including yourself), each with a different personality/attitude. Furthermore, the graphics are pretty darn good (relative to its time). You can interact with just about anything: flip a coin, use a well, change a baby's diaper, and you can travel by land, sea, and air (part 1). The combat system is awesome: many games today don't have as good a system. Each character is assigned a certain action when fighting (ie berserk, flee, protect, attack nearest, etc) and when a fight starts, everyone does their stuff. The game probably has the single most replayability of all the games I've ever played. There are so many easter eggs, secrets, and funny tricks that can be done to make gameplay more enjoyable. This game is just flat out awesome: what other game is there that let's you scare off attackers with a dirty diaper?

The Bad
For all of those modern-day computer users, this game will pose a problem. It was created to by played in a purely DOS environment, and so it takes some effort before being playable under any Windows based system. Furthermore, even under DOS, a boot disk is required, as Origin has designed the game with its own memory manager.

The Bottom Line
The single best Ultima that was ever made. It was what made me purchase all of the other ones, just to get a feel of the Ultima world.
