Sonic Unleashed
- Sonic Unleashed (2008 on PlayStation 2, Wii)
Description official description
During a fight on one of Dr. Eggman's spaceships, Sonic becomes caught in a nefarious trap! Eggman uses a device to extract the Chaos Emeralds' power, and inverts it, sending a blast to the planet below which shatters Earth into pieces, reawakening a being called Dark Gaia. With Sonic no longer of use to him, Dr. Eggman quickly jettisons him and the now dead Chaos Emeralds into space, where he crash-lands on the Earth below.
Sonic Unleashed is a combination of two types of games: during daytime stages, Sonic is his normal self, with intense speed-based levels that are reminiscent of his original games. When night falls, Sonic transforms into a monstrous, yet powerful 'Werehog' with stretchy arms. In nighttime stages, he must brawl his way through 3D environments crawling with Dark Gaia's minions.
As players defeat enemies in both types of stages, they earn experience which allows them to level both Sonic's normal and Werehog abilities, such as speed, strength, life, combat and so on. There are also 3D hub worlds to be explored during both day and night, with different events occurring in each. Sonic can help the townsfolk with tasks for items and rewards, or purchase items from shops using the rings he's collected throughout the stages.
Sonic's buddy Tails also makes an appearance during stages where they fly his plane. During these stages, you must press the appropriate button sequences as they appear to shoot down any oncoming enemies.

The Good
The areas of day levels that are on a 2D plane are amazing! Those are what the next sonic game should be like! It's too bad that day levels are few and far between.
The music really fits with the levels in the game instead of just defaulting to a rock soundtrack as in previous games.
The Bad
The addition of the Werehog. It creates some extremely tedious night levels. Many people have said it, and it is true. Sonic is meant to be fast. The Werehog form slows him down to a crawl. Unfortunately this makes the night levels seem much longer than the day ones.
The Bottom Line
There was a lot of promise behind this game. The 2D segments of the day levels show what the game could have been. The Werehog, unfortunately, really brought it down.

A decent sonic game I have been waiting for long time
The Good
It's speed, gameplay, decent story, minor flaw beat em up night time levels, and many other ways you'll like it. The music fits well in most levels even the Windmill Isle stage. The Bosses are cool and challenging. The levels are neat, replay value for each one, and others. The voice acting are a bit improving. The graphics are detailed and colorful.
The Bad
There are some minor flaws such as very weird frame-rate issues, falling down easy when using your ring energy, the were-hog levels can be very long but not as bad as other worse beat em ups such as TMNT, Sherk 2, and Bebe Kid's. You need to replay levels to get the medals which become harder to find.
The Bottom Line
This game is a worth rent or if your a Sonic lover buy it. Just play if your a sonic fan and not like those critics who hated this game too much. However this game is way better than Sonic next-gen aside from those minor flaws.
