A fun action platformer shooter
The Good
Developed by A-Wave, a small Tokyo based studio run by Yasuho Tanaka that had a healthy relationship with Sega and Taito (publisher here), contributing mainly with graphics to many other studios' games and... made their own fishing games for different platforms up till the PlayStation/Saturn era, finally vanishing from existence. Their most famous title is probably Miracle Ropit: 2100-nen no Daibouken for the Famicom. This one is sort of a sequel/port of that game. The Japanese Game Boy version is called Rubble Saver, and I find it to be a little more interesting on regards that it has a little girl as a protagonist (and as we all know females are the perfect choice for a SciFi adventure).
The game is a simple action side scroller but quite fun with basic graphics that still manage to convey the idea of an alien world
and sweet music with unique catchy themes for each single level.
The Bad
The level design is a bit lacking with a linear "go from left to right" thing, jump or climb occasionally and not much else. The rope/grappling hook mechanic had great potential for platforming but sadly outside of boss fights to boost up speed it's almost not used at all; the enemies are quite easy, but the bosses are a real pain.
The Bottom Line
All these problems prevent the game from being considered an absolute classic but it still manages to shine as a little gem in the sometimes rough, arid environment of the Game Boy library.
