Fast Food Tycoon
Description official descriptions
Fast Food Tycoon is a pizza restaurant simulation. Like other games of its type the objective is to transform the modest amount of capital on hand at the outset of the game into a sizable fortune.
You begin by selecting a character to act as your CEO and initially invest in the restaurant industry. You then must manage numerous factors regarding your business, such as infrastructure, finances, staff, menu, advertising, etc. in order to turn a profit and gradually build a vast empire of dining establishments.
Another agreeable feature is that the actual cities each have distinctive styles of architecture incorporated into them to further the impression that you are actually in Rome, London, New York, etc. The theme of each city is further emphasized by soundtrack music indigenous to the area. As time passes, night and day are simulated, complete with sunrises and sunsets. Time zones are accurately depicted as well, so if you jump from Tokyo to New York, you'll go from night to day, reflecting local time.
The influence of "underworld" activities is also present in the game. If you desire, you can align yourself with organized crime. Doing so can be highly profitable but is not entirely without risk. If you opt for a life of crime, you will have to be on the lookout and avoid law enforcement at times.

The Good
Fast Food Tycoon is a great game in a sense. It lets you manage a struggling pizza parlor until you can turn it into a successful pizza empire. Utilizing lots of ingredients, you can mix and match them to your heart's content. Pizza's can be made up of anything. There is also mob dealings, which add to the gameplay. Be nice to them; enjoy success. Tick them off; watch your place blow up.
You have a lot of customization, including carpets, chairs, tables, ovens, stools, counters, cash registers, pizza delivery people, delivery cars and more.
The Bad
The worst feature of this game is it's repetitively. City after city is the exact same thing, except in a different locale with different inhabitants.
The A.I. is exceptionally awful. Not only are your rival pizza store owners a pushover, the mob you annoy usually does not retaliate. Refuse their demands and you won't be attacked until you refuse them for the eight or ninth time.
The interface is awful. Unless you are a computer whiz and can spot out the options and controls, you will be unable to do anything for quite a while. The interface and control panel are all pictures related to pizza, with no text label. It's a matter of moving your mouse over the icon to have a pop-up tell you what it does.
No instruction manual. I enjoy reading manual's to learn about the game, but for some reason, the manual was absent from this game.
The Bottom Line
Being a "budget price" game, it is a good idea gone bad. I would recommend this game to people who absolutely MUST have this kind of game, and only them.

Trivia
Copy protection
The game had several copy protection layers. Other than a then-standard CD check, one layer would prevent playing a match for more than one in-game year in the case of a pirated release detection, while another would delete all saved games after 8 hours in the same scenario.
Humour
When attempting to set the advertising target to something other than Earth (like Alpha Centauri, for instance), a window will pop up saying that it's not possible in this version of the game.
Version difference
In the North American release of the game, waitresses have a sprite similar to female temps, differing only in a darker shirt. All other versions have a unique, more "appealing" sprite.
