More of the same if you like Mechwarrior 3
The Good
The new mechs and new weapons are a lot of fun, the extra missions are well designed. The new terrain choices are welcome, and the new lance commands are very useful in some cases.
The Bad
The AI is still just as stupid as before. The AI relies on trigger points or trigger events. If you don't hit the tigger event, you can do just about anything you want, including conducting repairs within view of enemy base, and the defenders will just sit there! This was the case in MW3, and is still not fixed in PM. At least in some of the missions you're required to defend, which minimizes the dumbness of the AI.
The "night" missions wiht shoulder lights are pretty dumb when you consider that the older MW2 has enhanced vision and night vision for the mechs.
The resource management problem has not improved either. With more mechs, more weapons, and more equipment to sort thorugh, the problem is now worse than ever. The equipment list is not alphabetized or sorted in any way, which makes judging how much ammo for each weapon almost impossible.
The Bottom Line
Mechwarrior 3: Pirate's Moon Expansion Pack is simply more of the same. It has more mechs, more terrain, more weapons, more enemies, more missions, more difficulty. However, it does not really attempt to solve the AI problems, and the extra mechs, weapons, and equipment merely make the "resource management" problem worse. As an expansion pack, it is fine, but it could have been a lot better.
