Funky Fantasy
Description
Somewhere in the distant reaches of space, there exists a society where magic and technology coexist. In this world, peace is maintained by four great cards representing human emotions — Joy, Anger, Grief, and Pleasure. However, the Kingdom of Yoshimole, which protects the Card of Joy, has suddenly come under attack by the Rokuna Empire, which holds the Card of Anger, and strange monsters have appeared all over! The Queen of Yoshimole, Bunny Bee, escapes with her two retainers Riki and Alter, and together they must fight back against the Rokuna Empire and save their homeland.
Funky Fantasy is a comedy-fantasy turn-based strategy RPG. Many of the characters and situations are parodies of popular contemporary games and media, and the cast consists of comedians and actors from Yoshimoto Kogyo, the largest comedy talent agency in Japan at the time. Gameplay is similar to titles like Tactics Ogre with the player controlling Bunny Bee and a team of fighters on grid-based maps against various opponents. Each turn consists of a Move phase, in which the player can position their units, followed by an Attack phase, where the player can attack enemy units or perform other actions.
A key feature is that Bunny Bee can summon monsters on the battlefield to fight for her, similar to Master of Monsters. Each chapter consists of several battle culminating in a boss encounter, and is strictly linear with each battle occurring in order as the often-bizarre story dictates.
