Scorpion

Scorpion is a space based shoot-em-up where you control a spaceship armed with guns and a limited number of missiles. You must fight against an onslaught of giant space arachnids over five stages of play.

In the first stage, you scroll horizontally and spiders trailing webs appear from the edges of the screen. You must avoid spiders and blast open a path through any webs that appear in your way. In the second stage, you are beset by more purposeful foes. There is a web-spinner accompanied by two guards, which tries to catch you in a spiral web that it constructs from the edge of the screen. Other spiders shoot at you from the sides of the constructed web. You can move and fire in any direction, and must avoid getting trapped.

Stage 3 pits you against a scorpion, guarded by smaller spiders. The scorpion is impervious to your bullets, and will move its claws about to block shots but will die quickly to a well placed missile. Stage 4 is a maze negotiation game, where you must traverse twisty passages, some of which are blocked by scorpions, spiders or their webs. Slow progress through the maze may cause you to run out of fuel before reaching one of the refills that are scattered about. Stage 5 pits you against a monster black widow and her brood. The spider is protected by webs, and again can only be taken out by a missile strike.

After each circuit of the stages, you restart from Stage 1 but at a higher difficulty level. Stage 5 is only played from the second circuit onwards. The game ends when all of your lives are lost.
