Fractured Realms
Description
Fractured Realms is a sci-fi real-time strategy game (RTS) on the OpenRA engine, heavily inspired by the Command & Conquer series and, to a certain extent, StarCraft. Set in the distant future of faster-than-light (FTL) space travel, the game's story pits four factions against each other as they vie for supremacy and control of the mysterious mineral called Diastim.
The game plays very similar to Command & Conquer titles, in particular reminiscent of Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 in appearance and playing mechanics. Each player controls a base with a central structure that produces all other buildings required to set up the economy and amass a force of infantry, combat vehicles and aircraft. Diastim is the only resource, similar to Tiberium in the Command & Conquer games. Each faction has its own unique units, technologies, superweapons and other advantages. For example, the Red Alliance does not require external power sources for their buildings and can redeploy any structure by packing it back into mobile form at any time. Like in Red Alert 2, neutral buildings can be garrisoned by infantry for greater protection, making them the primary line of defence for some of the factions, while certain neutral "tech" structures can be captured by engineers for extra income and other bonuses. Additionally, there are upgrades (something not found in Westwood-era Command & Conquer games) that improve unit stats and provide units with new weapons and abilities.
As of version 1.0, Fractured Realms has four playable factions: Red Alliance, Order of the Baneslayer, Conclave of the Horizon and the Terran Federation, offering multiplayer battles and skirmish games against AI opponents. The game is released as freeware.
