Warp 1
- Warp 1 (1979 on Arcade)
Description
Warp 1 is a strategic space travel simulation based on the Star Trek franchise without an official license. Players take control of the commander of a federation starship to seek out a fellow captain lost in space. The environment consists of six quadrants with 48 sectors for each one.
The starship is moved through the sectors using four directional options. Next to firing phasers during confrontations, options include activating shields, the warp drive and ion drive. The shield reduces damage and the warp drive cannot be activated when the shield is up. The ion drive is used for a time-limited docking procedure for star bases based on a specific sound. Docking is necessary to restore energy levels. Firing phasers requires manual manoeuvring as well as maintaining energy levels.
The top of the screen displays the quadrant and its sectors using characters. There is "0", "X" and "*", indicating possible positions for warp zones and star bases. The second character is a number indicating the number of Klingon enemies in the sector. The bottom left side of the screen shows the ship using a top-down view with animations. The bottom right side shows the condition of the ship including damage, warp drive, ion drive, phasers and overall rating.
To complete a quadrant all Klingons need to be defeated and then a warp zone needs to be located to move to a new quadrant. The captain is discovered after completing the sixth quadrant.
