Global Thermonuclear War
- Global Thermonuclear War (1983 on DOS, Apple II)
Description
Global Thermonuclear War is a 2-player strategy game for the TRS-80 CoCo.
Each player controls a 7 x 8 grid, where they place their defense and offensive systems, and players take turns launching nuclear missiles at their opponent until one side is destroyed. In the setup stage, each player places their buildings on their grid while their opponent is encouraged to leave the room.
Each player places a control base, satellites, missile bases, ABM bases, communication centers, and computer centers on their grid. A control base is used to coordinate missile and ABM launches, and it's game over if destroyed. Missile bases are used to launch warheads at the opponent, while ABM bases can be used to shoot down incoming missiles. Each missile and ABM base has a total of 9 missiles.
The satellite is used to spy on enemy territory, but will only function if there are working communication centers. Communication centers also help control ABM function.
During war, each player has the option to launch an offensive missile or a defensive ABM. Players input the coordinates of where they wish to fire, and play continues until 1 side loses their command center.
