Io-Miner
Description
Io-Miner is a 1-player arcade game for the TRS-80.
The year is 2086, and the Terran Defense Authority has declared a state of emergency for the Sol System. The peace treaty between the Terra and the Empire of Proxima Centauri has been broken, and the evil Proximans are preparing for a major attack on the Sol System. An advance party has already crossed the stellar void between the two systems, landed on Jupiter's moon Io, and captured a plutonium mine there. With the Io mine twelve re-fueling base in the hands of the Proximans, the comparatively miniscule Terran defense forces have little hope of preventing Earth and her sister planets from becoming another Proximan slave system.
The Proximans have temporarily evacuated the mine, leaving behind only defensive robots. The player must guide a Mine Maintenance Robot specially outfitted for this mission with fusion grenades, and destroy the communication module on the lowest level.
The goal on each level is to reach the exit to the next stage. The droid has limited energy, and firing a grenade or moving uses up this energy. Energy can be picked up throughout levels, and if the droid is depleted, it explodes. Random doors open and close, which can damage the player, as well the player must avoid mining lasers. Matter teleporters on each level can transport players to a different location. If the player touches an enemy robot, they are destroyed. The player starts with 4 vehicles, and it's game over if all are destroyed.
