Description official descriptions
Wizards Learic and Leanoric have a long-standing feud, and would do anything to see off their rival. As Learic, this is your task.
Collecting herbs to cast spells is the main basis of the game. There are 24 herbs and flowers to be collected, which are used to make one of 12 spells (the herbs are only used for 1 spell, so there’s no need to decide which spell you’d prefer to have access to). You can use a combination of the spells (including a teleporter, invisibility and a fireball, which you must work our how to use). Leanoric’s direction relative to yourself is indicated by a compass.

One of the best games for MSX 1
The Good
You play against the computer AI who is walking the same world as you. Search for herbs to create spells in your cauldron. You use these spells to attack or freeze your opponent, heal yourself, be invisible etc.
Search herbs and create your spells, and search for your opponent before he finds you! Oh, and the dreaded fenced garden :) Look out for the guardian!
The Bad
Not all the spells are usefull. You'll use lightning, Fireball, Sprites, Heal, Freeze and Invisible most of the time. Most of the others are not very usefull. They could have done that better, but still. The best MSX 1 game ever in my opinion!
The Bottom Line
The best game for MSX 1 ever in my opinion.

Trivia
Commodore 64 version
C64 conversion was very different from ZX Spectrum or Amstrad version. The coder who was commissioned to do the conversion didn't bother to ask the designer of the game, John Pickford (who was not in the on-site team that created the game), about the game's map design. He ignored completely the map's layout data for each screen's objects. It resulted in placing trees and bushes randomly on each screen. As he had no map stored in memory, he was unable to use the AI code for the enemy wizard. This is why on C64 only Leanoric's position on screen was tracked but not his position on a map. Once he walked off screen, he would appear back on screen again after a random delay. Also because of dodgy positioning there were loads of sections where two screens didn't join up properly so the player would walk into trees or walls as the screen was flipped. Sales
According to the magazine Retro Gamer (issue #1), the game was Mastertronic's #18 best selling game (191.381 copies).
