Starting a new game against the computer, you choose which AI type you'd like to play against.
thumbnail
You then select from the six available teams, each with its own unique plays in its area of focus (passing, running or option plays).

The high scores page.
thumbnail
The kickoff return; our runningback passes the 20-yard line as the defensive players close in on him.
thumbnail
Critical ball, the equivalent of fourth-down in real-world American football. If the play fails to score, the ball will explode, destroying any offensive player that happens to be holding it.
thumbnail
Our quarterback runs to the left and up, as our runningback and our two tight-ends are covered pretty closely.
thumbnail
The runningback takes the hand off and takes off to the right. It's pretty clear and unlikely the defense is going to be able to get to him before he scores.
thumbnail
Cyberball 2072 introduces a new player type, the halfback, which looks like a kind of vacuum thingy with catapult arms. Here, our halfback receives a pass.
thumbnail
The opposing team's wide receiver almost makes it to our endzone. He's fast, but the defensive players used their turbo boost to catch up and knock him down.
thumbnail
A short pass to the wide receiver in the endzone for a touchdown.
thumbnail
Our cornerback raises his arms in celebration as the opposing team's offense fails to complete a pass.
thumbnail
Opposing team's cornerback has intercepted our pass and is running it back to our endzone for a surprise touchdown. The AI's linebacker is helping push the slow cornerback along and covering his rear.
thumbnail
A long pass from the quarterback (lower left) to the wide receiver connects, and it looks he's going to make it to the endzone here.
thumbnail
Opposing team's quarterback is lobbing it high in the air for a dubious pass short to the center.
thumbnail
Touchdown for 6 points, and the opposing team will now have the opportunity for a conversion for one or two more points, depending on if it is passed or run into the endzone.
thumbnail
End of the 4th period.
thumbnail
Both defensive and offensive plays are first selected by category.
thumbnail
Once the defensive category has been selected (short, medium or long), there are four configurations of each type to choose from.
thumbnail
The game has 240+ offensive plays available, and once the player has chosen passing, running, or option, four plays of the appropriate type are randomly displayed for the player to choose from.
thumbnail
Cyberball 2072 lost the little half-time show that its predecessor had, replacing it instead with an opportunity to spend money earned so far on player upgrades.
thumbnail
Our tight-end had an unfortunate accident when he was tackled while holding a critical ball. An exploded player is replaced with another of the next lowest quality. Plastic is the lowest.
thumbnail
Upgrading our wide receiver at half-time.
thumbnail
Players can pay an additional quarter for upgraded defensive players (which are not upgraded in the course of a normal game) at end-of-period. It pretty much amounts to a cheat.
thumbnail
The game also has a scenario-by-scenario play mode called Game Breakers, in which the player has to score or defend successfully in a number of situations. Three failures is game over.
