Spider
- Spider (1994 on Windows 3.x)
Description
Spider is an early implementation of the Spider Patience/Solitaire card game originally for NeWS on Sun OS, then ported to the X Window System.
Spider is a two-deck card game, where the objective is to fully organize the board into eight stacks, where each stack consists of an entire suit sorted from King to (low) Ace. Once the stack is complete, it can be moved as one to the foundation pile to free the space in the board for use. Cards can be moved individually, or as a sequence of all cards are already in order for the same suit. Cards can be moved onto a card of a higher rank of any suit, but per the grouping rule, it is advantageous to prefer matching suits so the cards can subsequently be moved together. Ten spaces in the board are available for use, with initially five cards per space dealt (only the top is face up). Once no more moves are possible, an additional ten cards can be dealt from the deck, one per column.
Like most card games, cards can be moved via drag and drop. However, there is no visible feedback for the drag operation until the mouse is released on the destination pile. Cards can also be moved to the most appropriate valid destination by clicking on a card. Cards can be clicked from that location again to move to an alternate location, if desired.
