Microzine #17

Microzine is an educational disk-based magazine published by Scholastic between 1983 and 1992. Each issue generally contains a simple adventure game, often with a Choose Your Own Adventure Style. Issue no. 17 contains:

• Letter from the Editor - A look at this volume of Microzine
• Microagent of the Body Guard - An adventure game where the player is a Microagent, tasked with stopping the forces of S.I.C.K. The player must save General Anesthesia, whose body has been invaded by S.I.C.K. Agents. The player receives help from Arby Sea, the red blood cell, to travel to different parts of the General's body to stave off damage from the S.I.C.K. agents. There is a combat system to fight with the S.I.C.K. henchman, and the player has limited health to complete their adventure. After each henchman is defeated, the player receives a clue to the location of the kidnapped agent Nora Pinephrine, who must be rescued to complete the mission.
• BASIC Training - The Main Computer at Computer Programming University has gone on the fritz, and must be reprogrammed using BASIC. The player must travel through 5 levels of the university to reach the computer. Each level has a brief lesson on BASIC, from which the player must afterwards show proficiency Each room has a logic puzzle where all blocks must be turned the same color.
• Mission Mix-up - The player has crash-landed on an alien planet, and must navigate across hostile terrain to the rescue site. The player is armed with 7 limited vials that can be mixed with each other to form new objects: Coldice, Airium, Rubberol, Foodium, Toolsine, Hotium, and Animal. Animal can be combined with Hotium to make a dragon, and so on. The player also meets resident animals, who must often be bribed with the correct foods or other items to allow the player to pass.
