Moon Cresta
Description official descriptions
Moon Cresta is a vertical scrolling shoot-'em-up. The action involves the player moving their ship along the base of the screen, while wave after wave of aliens come towards it. The yellow aliens split when shot, while the magenta ones are the toughest of all. Once the coast is clear, the player must attempt to manually dock their ship in a limited amount of time. Docking successfully will earn the player bonus points.

The Good
This game looks great- for a Dragon at least. A fine conversion of a favourite arcade game, it seems churlish to criticise one of the few official conversions for the platform. Great detection, mainly decent sound, good use of the hi-res BW mode, and super smooth game play plus professional presentation of both inlay and loading screen. Most of the tiny faults it has are also in the original arcade game, such as the predictable patterns of alien attack making the early stages a bit too easy.
The Bad
Other games on the Dragon did more in terms of sound. A couple of years earlier and the sound would have been considered to be great. As it was by the time the game was released several games had pushed the boundaries to give pseudo multi-channel sound and rather more impressive explosion sounds than we get here. Whilst it holds up it is certainly not exceptional. The docking procedure collision detection sometimes seems slightly unfair.
The Bottom Line
A faithful conversion done at the right speed that holds up reasonably well to those produced on other 8 bit contemporary machines.

Trivia
Launch contest
A contest by the publisher invited ace players to register with them if they achieved scores over 30 thousand points; eligible players breaking that threshold (and over 4 thousand of them responded) were entered into a draw to win the original coin-op this game was a conversion of, to install in their very own living room! The eventual winner of the draw was one Ian Clark of Newcastle.
Copy protection
The Amstrad CPC version of Moon Cresta uses the LENSLOK copy protection system. With this system the game loads to a screen that displays a large 'H'. The player must line up a supplied lensing device with this 'H' and, from a distance of about one foot (30.5 cm), view the screen with one eye. The lens decodes a two character security code that must be entered before the game can be played.
