In the German version, a matchbox with the words "Make it Hot for Hitler" on the mission briefings and all references to Poland were removed.
Poland
The game has been a subject of scandal in Poland. It has been accused by certain newspapers of antipolonism, and it was claimed to contain scenes depicting Polish people as drunkards, and false claims that Poland has started the war. Those accusations were wildly exaggerated, but the game has underwent some minor censorship in its Polish release.
Sales
In 2004, Codename: Panzers - Phase One won the Gold award from the German VUD (Verband der Unterhaltungssoftware Deutschland - Entertainment Software Association Germany) for selling more than 100,000 (but less then 200,000) units in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
