This is the title screen of the game.

Several cutscenes punctuate the important steps of the game. The story revolves around Mario and Luigi finding a Magical Typewriter that can help them defeat Bowser. But Mario is bad at typing...
thumbnail
... and because of his mistakes, the Typewriter explodes. The player has to help Mario to become a good typist so that he can gather the three pieces (one for each level) and defeat Bowser.
thumbnail
This is the main menu screen. The first time you start the game you will be greeted by an animated and talking Mario head. This can be disabled in the Options menu.
thumbnail
The Typewriter will bring a colored typewriter displaying the finger/keys positions, which key you just pressed and an animation about an object/character whose name starts with the key.
thumbnail
The main Options menu let you access the Guide Book and Lesson Times screens, as well as turn the music, the sound effects and the talking Mario head on or off.
thumbnail
By clicking on Guide Book, you can access a help menu, containing several tips to become a good typist, on topics such as body posture, lighting or how to place and use fingers efficiently.
thumbnail
The Lesson Times screen let you adjust the time you want a test session to last. You can also specify the Words Per Minute objective in each test of a level needed to receive a certificate.
thumbnail
After selecting New Student, you can choose to play as Mario, the Princess or Luigi. Then you enter your name, which will be used as your profile.
thumbnail
After selecting your character, you can choose to either play step by step (more or less "story mode"), to take a timed evaluation test or to play on a specific level with specific settings.
thumbnail
The help gives a detailed explanation of the several modes and their parameters.
thumbnail
If you select Choose a Level to Play, you access the level submenu. Beginning tests you on one key at a time, Intermediate on isolated words, Advanced on sentences.
thumbnail
Here too, the help gives a detailed explanation of how the different levels operate and their objectives.
thumbnail
Then, once you have selected the level you want to play, you choose which keys you will have to use during the test, among the five offered choices.
thumbnail
In the Beginning level, you only have to worry about one key at a time. Press the correct key and the character will either jump and break a brick block or attack a Koopa Troopa.
thumbnail
A star is displayed above the next enemy/block on which an action will be done. The key to press is also displayed at the bottom and the finger that should be used to type it is colored.
thumbnail
If you type correctly and fast enough, your character will move forward, translating your good performance but leaving you less time to read the next letters and thus increasing the challenge.
thumbnail
In the Intermediate level, you have unrelated words to type. Unlike the Beginning level, although the help fingers remain (at the top), you no longer have the current letter help
thumbnail
You will first be chased by a Cheep-Cheep. Once you have reached the right end of the screen, you warp back to the left side.
thumbnail
Then the Cheep-Cheep disappears and is replaced by an Octopus. Complete the screen again and you warp another time and another Cheep-Cheep becomes your new enemy.
thumbnail
If you don't type fast enough, Mario will start to drown and the level will be over.
thumbnail
In the Advanced level, you have complete sentences to type. This also means you will need to pay attention to punctuation and capital letters.
thumbnail
The first part of the Advanced level will have your character go through a corridor with three Thwomps. Complete one sentence and the character passes a Thwomp unharmed.
thumbnail
Pass the 3 Thwomps and your character will then briefly travel through some pipes to get to the next room. This is just a cut scene and therefore the time will be frozen during this.
thumbnail
Then your character will fall in quicksands.
thumbnail
As you complete sentences, the character will swim forward.
thumbnail
After three sentences have been completed, the character will get out of the quicksands.
thumbnail
You will then warp through another series of pipes and go back to a Thwomps corridor.
thumbnail
The Timed Evaluation test your general ability to type, without distractions and within a limited time. It will adapt the challenge depending on your performance.
thumbnail
Practice mode is similar to Timed Evaluation, although it does not have the limited time constraint and, unlike Timed Evaluation, allows you to train on other things than complete sentences.
thumbnail
Profiles are automatically saved each time a test is finished. You can therefore choose to stop and resume your game later. For instance, when it is another family member's time to play.
thumbnail
When you finish a test and before starting the next one, you get statistics about your performance. In the Options, you can print a report card containing those statistics.
thumbnail
In case some keys caused you higher than average trouble during the test, you will be notified in the Problem Keys area at the bottom of the statistics screen.
thumbnail
You can manually edit the texts/letters used for the lessons. ~ indicates to the game a point from which to start the lesson. The game uses such points randomly when starting a test.
thumbnail
Here is an in-game example of custom text. Of course, it is much more efficient to go the game install directory and modify the .lee files in a text editor.
thumbnail
The talking Mario head likes to do silly things, such as playing peekaboo when you decide to quit the game.
